Square Enix revealed a new Magic: The Gathering card depicting FFVII villain Sephiroth, and Tetsuya Nomura shared some insight about the designs for the art on each side, following its reveal at PAX East 2025. The card includes two designs of the character, with one of them being a new design for Safer Sephiroth that differs from his appearance in the original game.

Note: There are spoilers regarding Sephiroth in the original FFVII and FFVII Rebirth below. 254x31

The starting side of the card is titled Sephiroth, Fabled Soldier and it shows the character in his iconic black garb, lifting the Masamune sword with both hands. While the card itself obscures this next detail, an original sketch shared by Square Enix shows young Sephiroth at the bottom of the illustration, as he appears in FFVII Ever Crisis.

The other side of the card is titled Sephiroth, One-Winged Angel and it depicts Safer Sephiroth, the most powerful form that the character takes during his final boss fight in the original FFVII. As mentioned above, the new design is different to his classic look. Character designer Tetsuya Nomura said that there is a reason behind Safer Sephiroth looking different in this Magic: The Gathering card than he did in the 1997 release of FFVII, however he confirmed that he can't share more about it.

You can check out the cards and read Nomura’s comment here:

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/status/1921822729013186730

From what Square Enix shared, the card shows Sephiroth with his right arm detached from the wing growing on his right shoulder, unlike the original design. Additionally, underneath the torso there is another Sephiroth head.

This change is reminiscent to Bizarro Sephiroth, one of the final phases of the character in FFVII and the final boss in FFVII Rebirth. Considering the secrecy and Nomura’s words, there is a chance that this design is a hint to how Safer Sephiroth will appear in part 3 of the FFVII Remake project, but we won’t know until the game is out.

The Final Fantasy card set will appear in Magic The Gathering on June 13, 2025.

Best 3D Turn-based JRPGs on Switch

The Switch is well-known for its excellent selection of JRPGs, and traditionally these feature turn-based combat. However, in recent years, favor has turned to action RPGs and turn-based games have been pushed to the side; even Pokémon’s next game has real-time combat. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t excellent 3D turn-based JRPGs. On the contrary there are many excellent games on the Switch from the genre. Here are our 10 favorite 3D turn-based JRPGs available on Nintendo Switch.

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk 6t5a1c

As we excitedly wait for the next entry in the series, Atelier Yumia, we had to add one of these games to the list. While the more recent entries in the Atelier series are all action combat, the series is best known for its turn-based roots. Most games from the series are available on Switch, but we’ve chosen Atelier Ayesha as the representative for this list, as the beginning of the glorious Dusk Trilogy.

As the name suggests, the series is about people working in ateliers, and there is a strong emphasis on collecting resources out in the world in order to craft items and potions that you can use in battle. This means that the strategic layer to the game is evident both in and out of combat. One of the best things about Atelier Ayesha is that once you’re finished there are plenty of other games in the series to enjoy.

Super Mario RPG 5r6939

Everyone talks about Paper Mario – in particular The Thousand-Year Door – but the game that the series was built from hardly gets mentioned. Super Mario RPG originally launched on the SNES, when very few games were made with 3D graphics. It was a risk in many ways. There was not only the question of whether people would be interested in a turn-based Super Mario game, but the game also went against many long-standing RPG traditions.

Timing is crucial in Super Mario RPG, not only when you attack but when you defend as well. It adds an extra level of strategy to the game, and is something that few RPGs do. Separating it further from other RPGs is just how much damage is dealt and taken. Attacks often deal single-digit numbers, far from other bombastic RPGs that could see people hit for thousands. Super Mario RPG is not only one of the best turn-based JRPGs but the Switch version gives it several modern updates that fans love. The perfect place to start in your Mario RPG journey.

Persona 5 Royal 5d441v

For many people Persona 5 is the pinnacle of the always excellent Persona series, and Persona 5 Royal improves on the already excellent game. Persona 5 returns to the dungeon crawling formula of the original Persona games, with carefully crafted dungeons rather than the seemingly never-ending procedural abysses of the modern Persona series, namely Persona 3 and Persona 4. This is one of the main reasons that Persona 5 has risen above the pack.

Persona 5 tells a beautiful, complex, and exceptionally long story about the power of friendship overcoming the status quo. Royal not only adds a new protagonist, but new social links, and additional scenes giving fans of the game even more to sink their teeth into. It runs flawlessly on the Switch, and its length means that the home to handheld feature of the console makes it the perfect way to play. Become part of the Phantom Thieves, and change society’s hearts.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus 2b1d8

Key Art from Pokémon Legends: Arceus of the protagonists looking at a mountain surrounded by Pokémon

All mainline Pokémon games on the Switch are 3D turn-based JRPGs, and most of them are great, but we chose to highlight Pokémon Legends: Arceus as a completely fresh take on Pokémon’s formula. Instead of battling your way through a series of Gym Leaders before reaching the Elite Four and becoming the champion, you will be roaming around semi-open areas, catching Pokémon and studying them for the Pokédex.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus not only changes the focus to catching, but also changes Pokémon’s standard battle system. Battles are still turn-based, but they have an active system with Strong- and Agile-style moves. While the Pokémon and their movesets are the same as other games, what each move does is completely different in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. If you’ve tried out the mainline Pokémon games, and want something a little different, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the way to go.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses u4t3y

Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s flagship series, and Three Houses is one of the series’ best. It has all of the turn-based strategic battles that the series is known for, as well as the ability to bond with your teammates to level them up, but as the name suggests, Three Houses has three different paths you can follow, adding to its replayability.

Fire Emblem is well known for its brutal permadeath system, where if your characters die in battle, they die in real life too. However, Three Houses included a Casual Mode where nobody can be gone for good. You can still have the traditional experience, but if like many people the permadeath turned you off from the series, this is the perfect entry point.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak 1846z

Screenshot from The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak
Image via NIS America

The Legend of Heroes series is one of the longest running, beginning in the ‘80s, and many of them are available on the Switch. We have chosen Trails Through Daybreak to represent the series in this list, not just because it is one of the best, but because it is a great place to start as it begins a separate arc. Interestingly, Trails Through Daybreak is the only game on this list, which allows the player to choose between real-time combat similar to Nihon Falcom’s other major JRPG series Ys, or the turn-based combat the series is known for.

The series is known for its excellent characters and strategic combat, and Trails Through Daybreak exemplifies both of these. If you haven’t played the series before, you won’t understand every reference, but the developers have tried to make it one of the most accessible in the series in of the story and combat. It won’t take 30 years of video game knowledge to understand how good the intricate and complex writing is.

Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered 2137n

If you’re reading this list, you probably don’t need to be told how good Final Fantasy VII or even Final Fantasy VIII are. We’ll be holding our breaths a long time if we’re hoping for the excellent Final Fantasy VII Remake to come to Switch, but this console is one of the best places you can experience the original FF7. It can be purchased in a double pack with FF8, which is the game long-time fans of the series often point to as the best.

Both games have very different turn-based systems, which can create devastating synergies in different ways. FF7’s combat system is easier to use and more difficult to master. Creating devastating combinations requires good knowledge of Materia, Enemy Skills, and equipment that can link them in a way that stack. Conversely, FF8 is based on the Junction system, one that is difficult to grasp, but once you do, building up major damage is much simpler. Both can be purchased together at such a low cost, that it’s worth trying them out.

Monark 5l6z2l

Monark received middling reviews when it was released, and that’s because people found the battles too difficult. However, the battles are actually one of Monark’s greatest strengths, and where it fails is in explaining its systems properly. Once you understand how it works, and how your characters best synergize, it is one of the most satisfying turn-based strategy systems out there. The protagonist of Monark can Resonate with the other party sharing buffs across all characters, leading to extremely devastating damage.

Similar to the Persona series, Monark focuses on the character’s personal stories. Each character is based on one of the seven deadly sins, and each has a dark past. Despite this, they all band together to take on the forces that are keeping the students trapped in school and sucking the life out of them. Created by former Shin Megami Tensei developers, this one is perfect for those who enjoy diving deeply into combat systems.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 146v2l

Screenshot of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch of the characters running away from a robot.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is what happens when legendary anime maker Studio Ghibli teams up with the studio that created the epic turn-based JRPG Jeanne D’arc. Both Wrath of the White Witch and Revenant Kingdom are available on Switch, but we picked the first in the series as the best place to start. Ni No Kuni has an interesting battle system unlike the others on this list, it’s not just because it mixes turn-based and action combat.

Ni No Kuni’s combat features beastly familiars, and magical characters; think about it like if Pokémon let the trainers in the scrap. If you like the taming and training aspect of beastly battlers then this is another one you should try. Above all Ni No Kuni overwhelms players with its charm, and is a must play turn-based title.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose 1w3c4o

Screenshot of The Caligula Effect Overdose of of the Ostinato Musicians

Written by Tadashi Satomi, best known for working on the original Persona series, The Caligula Effect: Overdose follows a group of people who have realized that they are living in the Matrix. Despite knowing that the world they inhabit is fake, there is no way to escape. First, they must take down the Ostinato Musicians, a group of people who want to keep the idyllic world alive.

Overdose adds a lot to the story beyond the original The Caligula Effect, including new party and chapters that you can play from the point of view of the Musicians. You grow closer to your teammates, and learn more about their lives both inside and outside of the world you can currently see. The Caligula Effect: Overdose has an active turn-based system where timing and sequencing play a major role in your success or failure. It can be difficult, but once you master it, it’s very satisfying.

Let us know what your favorite turn-based JRPGs on the Nintendo Switch are in the comments below!

The Caligula Effect: Overdose has an active turn-based system where timing and sequencing play a major role in your success or failure. It can be difficult, but once you master it, it’s very satisfying.

The Steam Spring Sale can often be overwhelming, with thousands of titles slashed in price, it can be hard to figure out which games are a good deal. There is also the problem of choice, and gamers don’t want to spend their hard earned cash on a game they don’t like. If you’re an RPG fan, then we’ve rounded up ten of the best RPGs in the Steam Spring Sale that are worth both your time and money.

Here are our recommendations for the best value RPGs in the Steam Spring Sale.

Chrono Trigger f6p18

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games of all time, and while the Steam version isn’t the best, this Steam Spring Sale discount is still a bargain. One of the most iconic turn-based RPGs, Chrono Trigger is about exploring time periods, and getting dragged into a quest far bigger than yourself. With seven recruitable characters, and 12 different endings, Chrono Trigger set up many features that great RPGs use to this day.

Chrono Trigger is available for $3.74 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Yakuza 0 2t6e2m

Screenshot from Yakuza 0. Akira Nishikiyama and Kazuma Kiryu stand with their backs to the camera. They have no shirts on and their yakuza tattoos are just black outlines.

All of the Yakuza games are available during the Steam Spring Sale, but we recommend Yakuza 0 as a starting point if you haven’t played anything from the series. Yakuza 0 is not only chronologically the first game in the series, telling the back story to two of the series’ main characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, but it’s also one of the best. This action RPG series is one that every RPG fan should try.

Yakuza 0 costs just $10.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Persona 4 Golden l2e3r

Like the Yakuza series, the modern Persona series including recent releases like Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio, are all available during the Steam Spring Sale, but we’re recommending Persona 4 Golden. It’s one of the lesser played games in the series as it was a PlayStation Vita exclusive for almost a decade, and as all Persona games are standalone stories, it’s a great place to dive in. This turn-based RPG asks you to strengthen your friendships to unlock your true power.

Persona 4 Golden can be bought for just $11.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix 384xt

Screenshot from Kingdom Hearts. Sora, Aladdin and Donald Duck are fighting some heartless in Agrabah.

This one is more expensive than most games on this list, but it also includes four Kingdom Hearts games and two movies. Another classic RPG series, Kingdom Hearts blends Final Fantasy and Disney characters in an action RPG with a completely unique battle system. The Remix collection includes the first two mainline games as well as Birth By Sleep, Re:chain of Memories, and a cutscene collection from 358/2, and Re:coded. It’s a great starting point in the series.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix costs $29.99 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Final Fantasy VII 2q4mh

When it comes to classic RPGs there isn’t anything more iconic than Final Fantasy VII. You can also purchase the remakes during the Steam Spring Sale, but the original game is available at an incredible price. Take on the epic adventure, which sees Cloud and his clan travel across the continent, visiting different towns and cultures, and discovering who the true enemy is along the way, with a deep turn-based battle system.

The original Final Fantasy VII is just $4.79 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Nier: Automata 4t1d21

If you like RPGs that challenge your preconceptions, and break the fourth wall with unexpected twists, then action RPG Nier: Automata is for you. Not only does it look gorgeous even with its fast-paced combat system, but it combines this with its well-built world, and engaging storyline. With multiple endings that require multiple playthroughs to see them all, Nier: Automata asks you to question what you believe about the genre.

Nier: Automata costs just $15.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Live A Live 1b58t

A gorgeous 2DHD remake of a classic turn-based RPG, Live A Live tells eight separate stories across different time periods, protagonists, and gaming genres, before they all align for one final adventure. Live A Live is a fighting game, a tower defense game, a stealth game, and a visual novel as well as an RPG, and it blends everything together beautifully and seamlessly. A must-play older game that everyone should experience.

Live A Live is available for $19.99 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Lies of P 102v54

A more modern game than most on this list – hence the price – we’ve added Lies of P as our soulslike of choice as it’s a great entry point for this subsection of the RPG genre. Far more story heavy than other soulslike games, Lies of P tells a steampunk Pinocchio story with challenging combat, and choices that have major outcomes on the story.

Lies of P is on sale for $35.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Trails of Cold Steel 242g1a

Starting in 1989, there are few series that are as long-lasting as The Legend of Heroes, and almost all of these games are on offer as part of the Steam Spring Sale. Trails of Cold Steel is one of the best games to jump into as it includes a four game story arc with a satisfying start and end. Once you get into the turn-based RPG series there are so many other games to explore that your wallet might just regret grabbing this first game.

Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel currently costs $19.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 382t4d

Screenshot by Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch of the characters running away from a robot.

One of the most popular RPGs from the PS3 era, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch combines whimsical storytelling, and the gorgeous art style of Studio Ghibli. Evocative voice acting brings the whole world to life as you feel as if you are living in a Ghibli movie while playing this turn-based RPG. This is the perfect game if you’re looking for somewhere whimsical to get lost in and escape.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch costs $7.49 during the Steam Spring Sale.

The Steam Spring Sale is on now, and ends on March 20.

New FFVII Bring Arts Cloud Figure Wields Hardedge Sword

Square Enix started pre-orders for the new FFVII Bring Arts Cloud Strife figure, which features his Hardedge sword. The previous version of this figure included his trademark Buster Sword. It costs $119.99. The expected launch window is November 2025.

Basically, this figure is identical to the one that is already available. The change involves the equipment the character comes with as an accessory. He can wield the Hardedge. Otherwise, the figure, three pairs of hands, and everything else are the same. there is also no extra face plate, so Cloud only bears one expression.

Here’s a full look at the figure:

As a reminder, the original Cloud figure this one is based on was sold with an NFT certificate. However, the rerelease in 2024 didn’t include that. There was also a Tifa variant that, like Cloud, came with NFTs at the start, but then didn't for the eventual rereleases.

There's a fun bit of trivia surrounding the Hardedge sword in-game. You get it via stealing from a SOLDIER enemy. It's the first stolen sword you can pick up for Cloud.

The FFVII Bring Arts Cloud Strife figure with Hardedge will launch in November 2025. Final Fantasy VII Remake is on the PS4, PS5, and PC, FFVII Rebirth is on the PS5 and PC, and the third entry in the trilogy is in development.

FFVII Remake Part 3 Needs to Improve Party Member Bonds 3m5j17 https://siliconera.telechargervous.com/ffvii-remake-part-3-needs-to-improve-party-member-bonds/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=ffvii-remake-part-3-needs-to-improve-party-member-bonds https://siliconera.telechargervous.com/ffvii-remake-part-3-needs-to-improve-party-member-bonds/#respond <![CDATA[Cody Perez]]> Sat, 08 Feb 2025 14:00:00 +0000 <![CDATA[Featured]]> <![CDATA[PC]]> <![CDATA[PlayStation 5]]> <![CDATA[Europe]]> <![CDATA[Final Fantasy VII]]> <![CDATA[Final Fantasy VII Rebirth]]> <![CDATA[Final Fantasy VII Remake]]> <![CDATA[Japan]]> <![CDATA[North America]]> <![CDATA[Playtests]]> <![CDATA[Square Enix]]> https://siliconera.telechargervous.com/?p=1076435 <![CDATA[

One of the best parts of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is how it greatly expanded upon the friendship and romance system from the original FFVII. In the original PS1 JRPG, players could complete certain actions to allow them to “romance” party like Aerith, Tifa, and Barret in the Gold Saucer. This bonds feature needs to return in FFVII Remake Part 3 and be even better.

How the friendship system worked in Rebirth was players could complete certain quests and make choices that would raise your bond with various party . If you could reach a certain level of friendship, you would be able to check out exclusive scenes in the Gold Saucer with that particular person. And if you maxed out that friendship, you could even see more special versions of those date scenes, including some surprisingly romantic ones.

Screenshot by Siliconera

While I really appreciated these scenes, there were some quirks about them that I wasn’t a fan of. For one, you can only go on a date at the Gold Saucer with one person in your playthrough. Sure, that does allow you to stake your claim in the eternal waifu war of Aerith vs. Tifa, but it prevents you from seeing moments with others like Red XIII and Barret.

To Rebirth’s credit, it does alleviate this issue in New Game+. Once you beat the main story, you can do chapter select. This allows you to see all of the date scenes with every character. It is a shame, though, that you have to complete the game to be able to enjoy this. With Part 3 in this trilogy, it doesn’t have the shackles of the original to hold it back.

Since the Gold Saucer is now behind the party, the bonds system can return in a grander way. For this, I look to how other JRPGs like Persona 5 handle party member friendships. In those games, you are able to build your friendship with each character independently of one another. For instance, you might have rank 3 bond with Barret and rank 4 with Aerith.

The important part of this is your bond scenes aren’t tied to certain story beats. Instead, reaching level 5 friendship with Tifa might allow you to see an optional scene. This doesn’t prevent you from doing the same once you reach rank 5 with Yuffie. These scenes are all available so long as you take the time to raise your friendship levels.

Screenshot of Tifa Dialogue Choice in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Screenshot by Siliconera

This way, you won’t have to rely on NG+ or anything like that. You can just seek out side quests and other content that raise your friendship levels as you go. It feels like a more complete system and it would be fitting, too, for this grand finale. There could be the option to learn more about the backstory of characters like Vincent Valentine in the process.

You could even help the characters to learn to move past certain issues as well. For example, you could help Tifa move further past the trauma of losing family and her town. However, this doesn’t mean you miss out on those more “exclusive” parts that were in Rebirth’s Gold Saucer.

Like Persona, I would like to see the bonds system in FFVII Remake Part 3 to have optional romance as well. Perhaps you could deepen your bond enough to make choices to romance someone like Tifa if you want or just keep a platonic friendship. This would still allow players to have some sort of agency in determining how Cloud’s story goes.

The point of the FFVII Remake Part 3 friendship and romance system should be much more flexible and free. It should allow you to get to know the party like Cait Sith and Cid on a deeper level without the restrictions featured in Rebirth. This would be the best way to cap off this wonderful Remake trilogy in a special and meaningful way.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth are available right now for PS5 and PC.

New FFVII ‘One-Winged Angel’ Piano Cover Shared

There’s a new Final Fantasy song cover on the Square Enix Music Channel on YouTube, and this time it is a Yui Morishita performance of “One-Winged Angel” from FFVII. A scale figure of Sephiroth appears alongside him throughout it. This arrived following the PC debut of FFVII Rebirth

This cover of “One-Winged Angel” lasts just over four minutes, and this take on the FFVII track is only available on the channel at the moment.

Some of the piano covers appearing here are available outside of the channel, however. The official Piano Cover Collection from Square Enix Music Channel CD released in October 2024. While that album did feature 15 tracks, only seven songs were from Final Fantasy games and none came from FFVII

As for the performer, Yui Morishita is known for working on video games. He’s also played for many Square Enix covers before. For example, his work can be found on the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross soundtracks in an Orchestra Arrangement collection. He also did covers of Final Fantasy songs like FFVIII’s “The Man with the Machine Gun.” His other work includes a SMT III Nocturne HD Remasterpiano arrangement.

This is one of many ways Square Enix is promoting the FFVII Rebirth launch. It teased a Chocobo-themed Steam Deck giveaway. A FFVII Rebirth event returned to FFVII Ever Crisis. We also heard a cover of the song “One-Winged Angel” during the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2025 fashion show, as the FFVII track appeared as part of the showcase’s soundtrack.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is on the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Rebirth is on the PS5 and PC.

Aerith and Tifa Wear Kimono in FFVII Ever Crisis New Year's Update

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is one of the best games of 2024, just like the original Remake. As Square Enix looks ahead, it is likely the developer is focusing on the third and final game in the trilogy. This does mean DLC is unlikely to happen. This is fine, though, as I would prefer to see a spin-off of FFVII Rebirth rather than DLC.

With the original Final Fantasy VII Remake, we got the Intergrade version soon after. This not only brought the JRPG to PS5, but included the special Yuffie-themed DLC storyline. It was great and a fun little adventure to tie us over until the next release. We already know Rebirth is unlikely to get its own version of this, which is a shame since there is so much potential with a character like Vincent Valentine.

That said, I honestly don’t think it is best for DLC right now anyways. While a different team could work on DLC, it would likely take away still from the core development of the third game in the trilogy. However, I think a new remaster or spin-off game would be less likely to take away from key development, as we saw with Crisis Core.

That is why it is my hope that we get another spin-off or remaster to tie us over until the third game releases. The easiest guess would be Dirge of Cerberus. This would make sense since it would allow players to check out Vincent Valentine in action, though its placement as a sequel would make it a bit awkward.

In addition, there are some key gameplay changes that would have to happen in order to make Dirge of Cerberus work on modern platforms. There is little that can be done for the level design outside of a full-on remake, but there are changes that can be made to the AI and gunplay. Having Vincent’s action mechanics work more smoothly would go a long way. In addition, making enemies react smarter and faster would help the difficulty feel better.

It would also be nice to see the general graphical improvements. The original third-person shooter RPG looked great on PS2. With some smoothing out of the blurriness and up-res of some textures, it could look solid today.

Another great option to replace DLC would be to make a remake of Before Crisis. This spin-off game tells the story of several key Turk . It was a mobile game in the past, so it would need a massive overhaul. I could see this work as a smaller release. The one knock against this is its future inclusion in Ever Crisis.

However, why not bring Ever Crisis to more platforms then? The free-to-play gacha take on the original FFVII is a bit odd. However, it plays and looks better than you might expect. The mission structure isn’t my favorite, but I like the battles and exploration. Furthermore, the mobile game expands upon the world greatly, especially regarding Sephiroth.

It is a shame Ever Crisis is only available on Android and iOS at this time. I would like to see it come to other platforms, such as Switch, PC, and PS5. This would be a great way to prime players for the third and final game in the Remake trilogy. You could find out more about key characters, see the events of the original, and recap everything as a whole.

Since I don’t expect the sequel to FFVII Rebirth to release until 2027 at the earliest, that is a lot of time Square Enix has to fill. A brand new spin-off, remaster, or port of an existing game would be a great way to keep fans engaged with this world and characters. Whether it’s Dirge of Cerberus or a port of Ever Crisis, one of these needs to happen.

FFVII Rebirth is available right now for PS5. It also releases for PC on January 23, 2025.

FFVII Sephiroth Song “One-Winged Angel” in Louis Vuitton Fashion Show

The iconic FFVII theme song “One-Winged Angel,” which is tied to the villain Sephiroth, appeared during the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2025 fashion show on January 21, 2025. People could see the models walk out to the track, which was played by a live orchestra, during the live stream on the brand’s official YouTube Channel.

Square Enix announced the song’s inclusion on social media. The company noted that Pharell Williams, who is known for songs like “Happy” and “Frontin,” picked the song as a background track for the show.

In the past, we've also seen Kenny Omega walk out to wrestle dressed in a Sephiroth-style outfit while "One-Winged Angel" played.

There will also be some Final Fantasy fashion for the Steam Deck soon, as Square Enix announced it made FFVII Rebirth Steam Decks. These are designed to resemble the Chocobo mascots in the series, due to their yellow, fluffy covers. The three of them will be given away to celebrate the PC launch.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PC on January 23, 2025, and the second FFVII remake game is immediately available on the PS5. The original FFVII Remake is on the PS4, PS5, and PC, and the third entry in the series is in development. FFVII Ever Crisis is also available worldwide on both the PC and mobile devices.

Final Fantasy VII FFVII Banora White Juice drink recipe shared on 2024 Christmas Eve

Square Enix shared Final Fantasy VII drink recipes via its Japanese FFVII Remake series X on December 24, 2024, just ahead of Christmas day. People can use these recipes to replicate the drinks that are originally made in Square Enix's cafes across Japan.

The company shared two drink recipes in the same tweet. The first one is the Mako's Eye Drink that is based on the key substance in FFVII, which Square Enix had already published before during the 2023 Christmas Eve tweet. The second entry, Banora White Juice, was not included in last year's tweet.

The full ingredient list for the newer Banora White Juice is as follows:

 • An adequate amount of ice blocks
 • 150 ml of apple juice
 • 20 ml of Butterfly Pea tea
 • 5 ml of Purple Haze syrup
 • An adequate amount of liquid lemon
 • An adequate amount of mint leaves

As a side note, Square Enix added a fine print cautioning that the composition of Butterfly Pea tea will make the Banora White Juice not suitable to drink for those who are pregnant or having a period.

The Japanese official tweet containing the drink recipe videos is also available to view right below:

https://twitter.com/ffviir_cloud/status/1871322393123402046?s=61

The above two drinks take inspiration from Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII sub-series. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake project, is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5. Square Enix will port the title to PC on January 23, 2025.

Cloud Polygon Figure Based on Original Final Fantasy VII Model

Square Enix announced that it will sell a Final Fantasy VII Cloud polygon soft vinyl figure with a design based on the polygonal character model used in the original FFVII PlayStation game. The Square Enix Store notes it will ship in June 2025, and people can pre-order it for $29.99.

There are a few points of articulation on this figure, so it isn’t entirely static. The initial photos of it show his arms can move. You can also twist him at the waist or change the position of his feet by turning them at the ankle. It is a non-standard scale figure, so it stands at just under six inches tall.

Here’s a closer look at this version of Cloud.

This isn’t the only time Square Enix released a polygon version of Cloud based on his Final Fantasy VII model. There were sets of smaller ones too. These will be returning in June 2025, and the volume 1 set of about 2” tall figures features a similar take on Cloud. FFVII The First Soldier featured skins based on those designs, and the Fort Condor minigame in FFVII Rebirth featured those models too.

The Final Fantasy VII Cloud polygon soft vinyl figure will launch in June 2025, and the original FFVII is available on the PlayStation, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.

Cup Noodles New Flavor References FFVII Advent Children Sephiroth

Cup Noodles released a new flavor of Tonkotsu Genova basil ramen noodles and the reveal post referenced one of Sephiroth’s most famous lines from FFVII Advent Children. While there seems to be no official collaboration between Square Enix and Cup Noodles this time around, the game studio playfully acknowledged the new product.

The original announcement post shows the new Genovese Basil flavor of Cup Noodles on an image with a starry background. The Japanese post translates to the following:

It is finally on sale, Mother.

Shall I give you a rich flavor?

With its memorable basil flavor the new Tonkotsu Genova is now available for sale.

The first line of the post references Sephiroth talking to his mother Jenova, and the second one is very similar to his “Shall I give you despair?” line from FFVII Advent Children. This same line was previously referenced in an official Nissin Donbei collaboration with FFVII Rebirth ahead of the game’s February 29, 2024 release. The day after the Cup Noodle announcement post, the FFVII Remake project X (formerly Twitter) official quoted the post with a single thinking face emoji.

The reason Cup Noodles used the famous Sephiroth lines from FFVII Advent Children as a pun in their new Tonkotsu Genova ramen lies in the Japanese pronunciation of the Italian city of Genoa or Genova, famous for its basil. In Japanese, the word for Genoa (ジェノバ) could be read as either Genova (an alternate spelling) or Jenova, the name of Sephiroth’s “mother” in Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second entry in the remake project, and it is readily available for the PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy VII FFVII Rebirth aluminum magnets

Square Enix has revealed new aluminum magnets inspired by the Final Fantasy VII series, although it specifically branded them under FFVII Rebirth, the series' latest entry as of 2024. The company has also opened pre-orders for the magnets on its Japanese e-Store website. Just like any other regular magnets, the owner will be able to place these items on objects like refrigerators.

This new FFVII Rebirth merchandise collection will consist of three different aluminum magnets. Each of them will respectively show a VII logo with Cloud Strife's Buster Sword, the Seventh Heaven bar emblem, and the Shinra Electric Power Company logo. All three of them will have the same price tag of 1,320 yen (~$8.88).

Here are the sample images showing each of the logo magnets in more detail:

The new magnets will add another entry to the ever-growing list of Final Fantasy VII-themed merchandise Square Enix has produced and released. In March 2024, the company revealed necklaces featuring the Buster Sword, which it released in September 2024. It also re-released the exquisite music boxes that play Aerith's Theme in October 2024.

Square Enix will release the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth aluminum magnets in Japan on December 7, 2024.
