Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles English voice actors, and the FFVII Remake voice actors for Aerith Gainsborough and Cloud Strife will both be reprise their roles as the characters. Both Briana White and Cody Christian are confirmed. The two appeared in both FFVII Remake and Rebirth.

The full list came up after Square Enix talked more about the June 2025 State of Play reveal. It shared eight of the English voice actors. Among them is the English voice of Clive Rosfield, as Ben Starr will be Dycedarg. 

Here’s the full list of Final Fantasy Tactics English voice actors we know so far:

• Cidolfus: Timothy Watson
• Cloud: Cody Christian

In the original Final Fantasy Tactics, you could actually encounter both Aerith and Cloud. It’s also possible to recruit Cloud, if you follow certain steps. 

In addition to the $49.99 standard edition, there will be a Collector’s Box. That includes a Ramza Akademy version figure, a set of three Chocobo plush, Outlying Church pop-up art, an art sheet, acrylic Zodiac Stones, and an option to get it with the game. It costs $200 directly through Square Enix, but sold out.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on September 30, 2025.

As part of the latest June 2025 State of Play, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is the long rumored remaster of the classic. The game is set to release on September 30, 2025.

The newly announced Final Fantasy Tactics remaster will include two version of the classic game. The Enhanced version includes multiple quality of life changes alongside full voice acting. Meanwhile, the Classic version is a faithful recreation of the original PlayStation title released on 1997. As shown in the trailer, Square Enix’s Creative Studio III is involved in the development of the remaster.

The original Final Fantasy Tactics appeared in 1997 for the first PlayStation console, and it follows the story of Ramza Beoulve, a noble knight cadet who gets involved in a military conflict known as The Lion War. The game received a 2007 enhanced port released for the PSP under the title Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

As a reminder, the latest Square Enix classic tactic RPG game to receive an overhaul was Tactics Ogre Reborn, which released in November 11, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will come out on September 30, 2025 for PlayStation 5. Information on other release platforms for the game might appear in the future.

Square Enix has been sharing developer messages congratulating the Final Fantasy XIV team on the 10th anniversary of A Realm Reborn, and some of the developers offering congratulations include Yoko Taro and Yasumi Matsuno.

Yasumi Matsuno, director of Final Fantasy Tactics, offered his message through his Final Fantasy XIV character. He gave thanks to the team and reminisced on the challenges of working on the Return to Ivalice and Save the Queen quest lines. He also talked about being surprised at the Emperor of Garlemald’s role in Shadowbringers.

Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito, director and producer of Nier: Automata respectively, also offered a t message congratulating the team on the Final Fantasy XIV anniversary. Their message was much more chaotic, as Taro asked Saito about his divorce, the two discussed Naoki Yoshida’s tendency to wear heavy shoes and “jingle-jangle accessories”. The message ends with them discussing whether they’ll still be alive for the 20th anniversary.

Other developers have offered their congratulations too. Akihiro Hino (President of Level-5) and Noda Crystal (member of comedy group Magical Lovely) both offered their memories of playing the game. Previous developer messages have included fellow Final Fantasy veterans Hironobu Sakaguchi and Yoshitaka Amano.

These developer messages are part of a wide range of 10th anniversary celebrations for Final Fantasy XIV. Previously, developers on the game were interviewed about their experiences by Famitsu, and a Memorial Book will be released on December 19, 2023.

Final Fantasy XIV is available now on the PS4, PS5 and PC.

On Twitter, Yasumi Matsuno stated that there no plans at the moment to remaster Final Fantasy Tactics. He added that if fans have a request for a specific game or remaster, they’d have to directly Square Enix instead of the developers.

The exchange took place on November 28, 2023, when a made some quality-of-life requests for a possible Final Fantasy Tactics remaster. However, Matsuno replied that there are no plans at Square Enix to remaster that game. Matsuno added that it’s up to the (as well as other s who may have seen the exchange) whether they believe Matsuno or not. It should be noted that in February 2023, some fans thought that there would be a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics on the way due to an interview about Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.

Yasumi Matsuno is a video game designer and writer who worked at Square Enix since when it was only known as Square. He worked at Level-5 after leaving Square Enix and founded Algebra Factory in 2016, years after leaving Level-5. Some of the games that Matsuno worked on over the course of his career include the Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers “Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhildr” scenario, Final Fantasy XII, and Tactics Ogre.

Final Fantasy Tactics originally came out in 1997 for the PlayStation, and the English version came out in 1998. So far, it seems Square Enix does not plan on remastering it.

My Final Fantasy Tactics memory is a sad one! I arrived fashionably late to the PlayStation party and acquired a system long after launch. Which meant I didn't get to its games for a while! I'd purchased a used copy of FFT and meant to play it! I did get into a few battles. But an ex-boyfriend indefinitely "borrowed" it.Which means I didn't really play it until War of the Lions for the PSP. Given the extra classes and refinements, that probably wasn't the worst thing. — Jenni

I've got two main Final Fantasy Tactics memories. The first dates back to a few years after the PS1 release, when I was in high school and found out that the copy of Tactics that was given to me as a birthday present was worth several hundred dollars on a website called "eBay," but only if it was in good condition. Sadly, my copy wasn't.

The second memory came after the game was relaunched as Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions on PSP, receiving a new translation, and crucially, a number of exclusive cutscenes. The best of them is one celebrating eternal Saint of Lady Knights Agrias Oaks' birthday. Despite having some real "you have to buy the guide to even know this happens"-type BS requirements, the little scene is lovely and has slowly colonized all my memories of this classic game. People may occasionally argue that the PS1 version was better, but this scene proves them wrong all on its own. — Josh

The original Final Fantasy Tactics is fun! It's great! But my heart lies with its GBA successor. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance swaps a visual style that hasn't aged technically quite as well for one that still looks stellar! It swaps a tough onboarding process for one of the best tutorials in gaming history. And perhaps most importantly, it doesn't swap the core tactical system that made the first game so great. I'd love a Tactics remake that polishes up its shortcomings, for sure. But Advance doesn't need one to be a blast. — Graham

Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIII characters will appear in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in Japan from May 14, 2022 to June 30, 2022. The game’s 2.5 Year Anniversary presentation revealed the War of the Visions FFXIII news. Lightning, Hope, and Snow will the game as UR characters on commemorative banners. Lightning and Hope will appear on May 14. Snow will be getting his own separate banner on May 23. Additionally, Fang will also make a guest appearance in the FFXIII event quests.

A one-time ten-roll banner will let players obtain one guaranteed copy of Hope. Three new Vision Cards are also being added in the War of the Visions FFXIII event. They all depict Lightning, Hope, and Snow alongside chosen Eidolons Odin, Alexander, and Shiva. Square Enix is also giving players a free ten-roll summon daily for 15 days to celebrate the half-anniversary.

War of the Visions is also re-running its Final Fantasy Tactics crossover from May 23 to June 22. This time, it unlocks EX Jobs for all six of the Final Fantasy Tactics characters, including Ramza, Agrias, Gaffgarion, Mustadio, Orlandeau, and Delita. EX Jobs in War of the Visions further increase the level cap of characters once they have reached level 99 and maxed out all their jobs. They also unlock new skill boards to further enhance old skills, alongside learning entirely new abilities.

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is available on mobile devices. The War of the Visions FFXIII event is in Japan only, for now. It is expected to hit the global version in the coming months, like previous crossovers. The War of the Visions x Final Fantasy XIII event in Japan will last from May 14, 2022 to June 30, 2022.

Square Enix opened pre-orders for Bring Arts figures of Agrias, Delita, and Ramza from Final Fantasy Tactics. Each figure will come with the character's weapon of choice. Pre-orders are open on the Japanese Square Enix e-store. The figures will cost ¥9,680 (about $84) each, and they'll release between July and September 2022.

The Final Fantasy Tactics figures are fully poseable, and each one comes with its own figure stand. Ramza is wearing his squire uniform, while Agrias and Delita are wearing their individual armor sets. The Ramza figure is expected to ship on July 2, 2022, Agrias on August 6, 2022, and Delita on September 3, 2022.

The three figures will have a range of different hand parts and their signature weapons. Both Agrias and Delita will come with a broadsword, and Ramza will come with his rapier. Additionally, Delita will come with a separate scabbard for his sword.

As of writing, the figures are only available for pre-order on the Japanese Square Enix Store. Past Bring Arts figures, such as the Dragon Quest VI Terry figure, have appeared on the western store, however. Other Bring Arts figures include Y'Shtola from Final Fantasy XIV, as well as Ashley and Sidney from Vagrant Story.

The Final Fantasy Tactics Agrias, Delita, and Ramza Bring Arts figures are immediately available for pre-order on the Japanese Square Enix e-store. Each figure will cost ¥9,860 (about $85) and ship sometime between July and September 2022.

Final Fantasy Tactics Director and Writer and Vagrant Story Designer, Director, Producer, and Writer Yasumi Matsuno is reportedly working on a game. According to Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Matsuno is currently working on a title as a scenario writer. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The information comes from a recent end-of-year round of interviews from the Japanese news outlet 4Gamer. The outlet asked 147 Japanese video game creators various questions, including what projects they are looking forward to in the near future.

Sakaguchi revealed that Matsuno was currently working as a scenario writer on a game. Sakaguchi did not reveal the title of the game in question nor any additional details. However, he did state that he was looking forward to how Yasumi Matsuno's new writing for the game would turn out.

Prior to leaving Square Enix in 2005, Matsuno acted as a creator for the Final Fantasy Tactics series and Vagrant Story. He also helped write the original concept for Final Fantasy XII. Matsuno later worked as a freelance writer and briefly worked at Level-5. Matsuno's latest video game release was Unsung Story in 2020.

Notably, Matsuno was the scenario writer for both the "Return to Ivalice" and "Save the Queen" side stories in Final Fantasy XIV. Matsuno has continued to keep in touch with Sakaguchi after departing Square Enix and was recently helping the series creator play FFXIV.

Another Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius event has begun in the global version of the game. Starting August 26, 2020, people have a chance to get Final Fantasy Tactics Agrias, Delita, and Mustadio units from the gacha and even get Ramza and Orlandeau again. There’s also a celebration that can award 2,000 Visiore, 20 million Gil, the Blades of Grass UR Vision Card, and Gaffgarion. There is also one 10x Summon available daily for everyone while the event runs.

Final Fantasy Tactics’ Agrias, Delita, and Mustadio all were discussed in the latest official War of the Visions: FFBE update video. Essentially, people were given a better idea of what each character will offer when they appear in this crossover.

So “He Who Has Naught” Delita is a UR unit whose main job is Squire and Sub Jobs are Paladin and Soldier. He can use Karma Blade and the Three-stage Hallowed Bolt of Truth AOE attack. His “cost” to use is 80. 

As for Final Fantasy Tactics Agrias, here she’s a UR unit known as the Fidelitous Knight. Holy Knight is her Main Job, while Cleric and Paladin are her Sub Jobs. She’s also going to cost 80 to use. Her signature skills are the AOE attack Candescent Hew, the AOE attack Judgment Blade, and Northswain’s Strike.

Finally, there’s Mustadio. He’s an MR unit, so you might have an easier time pulling him, and he’ll have a cost of 60 associated with him. His Main Job is Machinist, and his Sub Jobs are Ranger and Thief.

As you might imagine, there are also special quests. People can go through event quests and an EX-Quest right away. This would let you get the Sortilege MR accessory recipe or a Nagnarok for Ramza. Between September 2-15, 2020, there will also be the Midnight’s Deep Labyrinth with items like the Lesalia Royal Guard Standard-issue UR sword.

Humans have been mysteriously dying out across Ivalice, leaving creatures to battle it out in Monster Tactics, a new rom hack out for Final Fantasy Tactics.

Players are no longer able to recruit human units, instead finding new monster allies through random battles. The monster units are greatly expanded compared to the original game, offering at least four skills each, as well as new innate abilities and status/elemental weaknesses.

Monster Tactics is also a great deal more challenging with new battle formations, enemies that scale to the party level, and entirely new fights that have been added to the game’s story. Players can also take on harder extra fights at bars, which have replaced Final Fantasy Tactics’ Propositions.

Just at the start of the month we noted that card-based arcade game Lord of Vermilion III was getting a crossover with Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. Famitsu have now posted a trailer showing both Ramza Beoulve and Agrias Oaks in action within the game itself kicking ass and taking names.

As you can see, Ramza’s Shout special makes him a one-man army, raising his attack, defense and speed.

Agrias grows to immense size when she slices down with Judgement Blade, which can immobilize enemies and allow her to get to work chopping them down where they stand.

Lord of Vermilion III is out in arcades in Japan.

One lucky winner will win Final Fantasy Tactics for PsOne and a non-Greatest Hits copy of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions by creating funny captions in this contest. Square Enix plans on pushing Tactics Ogre with a series of bi-monthly contests and the heritage of the Final Fantasy Tactics series.

So far, there still isn't a release date or window for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together in North America.

Good memories, but I’d wait for Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions to popup on the PlayStation Store as a able PSP game. The PSP version has a much better localization (think Revelations: Persona vs. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona) and as a file on a memory stick it wouldn’t have loading issues that plagued the UMD release.

Tomb Raider III is on the PlayStation Store too. If you’re in the mood to harpoon dinosaurs it only costs $5.99.

If you have a Japanese you can play Final Fantasy Tactics on your PlayStation 3 and PSP with less load times. Like Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics is sold as a game for 1,000 yen ($10).
